WHAT CLAMPS TO USE IN ELECTROFUSION WELDING

In electrofusion welding, particularly for polyethylene (PE) pipes, using the correct clamps is essential to ensure the pipes are held securely in place during the welding process.

The primary purpose of clamps in electrofusion welding is to prevent pipe movement and ensure proper alignment and contact between the pipe and the electrofusion fitting.

Here are the types of clamps typically used:

Alignment Clamps:
These clamps are used to align the pipes correctly with the electrofusion fitting. They ensure that the pipes are straight and properly positioned.

Restraint Clamps:
These clamps hold the pipes in place and prevent any movement during the welding process. They help maintain the necessary pressure between the pipe and the fitting.

Universal Clamps:
These are versatile clamps that can accommodate a range of pipe sizes. They are adjustable and can be used for different diameters and types of pipes.

Branch Saddles Clamps:
Specifically designed for welding branch saddles onto existing pipelines. These clamps ensure the saddle is held firmly against the main pipe.

Manual and Hydraulic Clamps:
Depending on the pipe size and the required force, clamps can be manual (operated by hand) or hydraulic (operated using hydraulic pressure). Hydraulic clamps are typically used for larger diameter pipes where more force is needed.

When selecting clamps for electrofusion welding, consider the following factors:

Pipe Size:
Ensure the clamp is suitable for the diameter of the pipes being welded.

Pipe Material:
Clamps should be compatible with the type of material being welded, typically polyethylene (PE) for electrofusion.

Welding Environment:
Consider the working conditions, such as temperature and space constraints, to choose the appropriate clamp type.

It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and guidelines for both the electrofusion fittings and the clamps to ensure a successful and reliable weld.
